This course focuses on the theories and practices of giftedness and ways to support the gifted student in regular class environments and specialized settings. Throughout this course, candidates will learn how to identify a student as gifted, including talent, creativity and leadership. Through discussion and collaborations, candidates will explore various pedagogical frameworks and current research, procedures and challenges relevant to gifted education. In this course, candidates will learn how to provide a holistic and inclusive educational program that builds on students abilities and enables them to reach their full potential. In this course, candidates will have the opportunity to apply their learning to develop student profiles and plan and implement specialized differentiated instructional strategies for the gifted, including adaptive technologies, materials and curricular enrichment (or acceleration) that they can use in their teaching practice.
