This course will enable candidates to explore creative opportunities to design sustainable learning environments in their classroom, school, and/or educational institution through the environmental literacy components of awareness, knowledge, attitudes, skills, and action. Using the Environmental Curriculum Maps, candidates will learn how to integrate environmental and sustainability concepts in their teaching practice, design and practice effective teaching strategies to support student leadership and collaborative initiatives in making personal and collective sustainable choices. In addition, candidates will examine ways to work with students to embed sustainability into classroom practices. This includes everything from turning off lights and computers when not needed to using paper and materials, recycling in the classroom, and encouraging waste-free lunches.
