British Columbia receives the second highest numbers of New Canadians in Canada. With increasing numbers of English Language Learners (ELLs) in British Columbia schools, particularly in the urban and suburban areas of Vancouver, there has been a wide range of English language programs and services developed to offer English language support. English language learners (ELLs) are those whose primary language(s) of the home is/are other than English. For this reason, they require additional services in order to develop their individual potential within British Columbia's school system. ESL Part 1 is designed to introduce you to the theory and practice of English language learning and teaching so that you will be well equipped with the knowledge and skills to teach ELLs in designated classes and/or provide instructional accommodations for these students in mainstream classrooms.
