This course will offer candidates an introduction to educational leadership by exploring leadership theories and how they might interface with their leadership style. The course will examine significant educational leadership development frameworks, historical, management, social, and psychological resources into leaderships nature and character. The core tasks and roles of education leaders and the organization of resources by providing service to students, teachers, and the school community will be examined and discussed. The course will provide opportunities for candidates to explore the five strategic leadership commitments critically, the practice of leadership and the issues associated with it: communicating with parents, students, and the school community; and their analysis of ones leadership stance through the lenses of equity, ethics, privilege, power, anti-oppressive practices, diversity, inclusion, and democratic dialogue. The course will conclude to allow candidates to critically design a personal leadership profile, including a plan for personal growth and development.
