The objective of this course is to offer students a hands-on introduction to some of the fundamental tools and techniques of contemporary instrumentation and data analysis, with application examples from both surface and underground mining. Topics covered include an introduction to engineering measurements and the statistical nature of measured data, fundamentals of signal analysis and computer-based data acquisitions systems, introduction to common sensors and their applications, and the use of standard engineering software for data processing and analysis.
