This course examines the social, political and economic relationships that exist between Indigenous Peoples and proponents of industrial scale projects. Beginning with an exploration of Indigenous peoples' unique relationship to their lands and the risks such large projects pose for these existential relationships, the course will review specific social, political and economic issues arising from the engagement of Indigenous Peoples with major industries. Students will develop skills and knowledge critical to negotiating positive relationships between Indigenous Peoples and companies seeking to work on their lands. (3.0 credit units)
