A study of the three periods constituting contemporary Spanish theater: Pre-Spanish Civil War, Franco and Post-Franco. Special attention will be given to GarcĂa Lorcas Andalusian tragedies from the first period, to works of the realist generation of Buero Vallejo, Recuerda, Olmo, and RodrĂguez MĂ©ndez written under the constraints of Franco, and, finally to plays focusing on the problems of modern life within a democratic society written by Alonso de Santos, Cabal and Pedredo in the third period.
