This course studies the important literary texts and poems that defined the Modern period in American Literature. The course examines the American Modernist response to the pre- and post-World War I ethos through various concepts, contexts, and movements such High Modernism, Harlem Renaissance, the Lost Generation, the Jazz Age, Modernist Primitivism, as well though texts that shed light on issues of gender, race, and class.
