Introduction to stereochemistry, spectroscopy and chemical reactions of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and alkyl halides. Reaction mechanisms and the interpretation of IR, NMR and mass spectra is explored. Training in the handling and purification of organic compounds, organic chemical reactions,and the use of infrared spectroscopy. Includes: Experiential Learning Activity Precludes additional credit for CHEM 2207. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 1006(no longer offered) with a minimum grade of B-, or CHEM 1002 or CHEM 1012. Lectures three hours a week and laboratory three hours a week.
