This interdisciplinary course will introduce students to topics that demonstrate the Caribbean region's rich and nuanced Black histories and cultures. Focusing on short, contemporary cultural productions-including written and spoken-word poetry, short stories, music, and news publications created by Afro-Caribbean artists-this course will offer a grounding in the rich geographies, multi-linguistic traditions, and socio-political landscapes of the Black Caribbean and its diasporas in Canada, the United States, and England.
