We will examine the 1001 Nights as a text that reflects or challenges stereotypes of race, gender, and ethnicity. In this course, students will read the original stories, analyzing assumptions about race, gender, and ethnicity, and also come to understand the process by which the corpus of Nights was preserved, expanded, translated, disseminated, and even forged.
