Institutional Learning Outcomes: Communication This course examines the role of communication, community engagement, and consent in First Nation Lands Governance. Students explore leadership's fiduciary responsibilities in lands-related decisions and the principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) within Indigenous and Canadian legal frameworks, including the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Through topics such as ethical communication, digital engagement, and community-driven decision-making, students learn practical skills for facilitating meaningful, informed community involvement, and fulfilling the requirements of a Land Code. The course enables students to build competencies in communication and engagement, foundational for supporting good governance, transparency, and trust in community relations under Land Code. This course aligns with TRU's Communication ILO by developing skills in effective, respectful, audience-appropriate communication and critical listening. Prerequisites: APNR 1110 (min. grade D)
