This course builds capacity in collecting, mapping, and interpreting spatial and community data to support planning and decision-making in Lands Governance. Students learn the fundamentals of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and explore ethical approaches to collecting Indigenous Knowledge. Topics include colonial and Indigenous mapping histories, data sovereignty, records management, and the use of GIS for integrated community planning and environmental stewardship. Delivered in a hybrid and blended format, the course combines in-person and online learning, featuring real-world examples of Indigenous communities using GIS to enhance communication, engage stakeholders, and promote sustainable decision-making.
