This field course offers an immersive intercultural experience in the study of biology, environmental science and global change. Typically offered in early summer of alternating years, the two-to-four week course involves sessions at TRU followed by travel to a different host country or region. Students explore structure-function relationships of organisms within diverse ecosystems using an inquiry-based approach. Learning strategies include hands-on laboratory exercises, field trips, interaction with guest speakers and local experts, and collaborative group work. By experiencing commonalities and differences across two distinct cultures, students will examine relationships between society, culture, biodiversity, ecology and the broader world while developing intercultural communication skills. Recommended Prerequisites: Instructor approval required. Students normally have 3rd or 4th year standing in a relevant degree program (such as biology, environmental studies, geography). Other students may be admitted depending upon the expressed interest in their application and demand for the course. Each prospective student should meet with their own program advisors and the instructor(s) to determine suitability of this elective course for credit in their program of study.
