Institutional Learning Outcomes: This course presents the organization and architecture of modern, small computer systems. A discussion of representation and manipulation of information inside computers is followed by logic design basics, computer organization, and an introduction to computer architecture. Students are then introduced to the principles of operating systems, including the management of computer system resources, and provided an overview of current popular small systems operating systems. Topics are complemented by a seminar type workshop to give students hands-on experience with maintenance, configuration troubleshooting, upgrading, optimization, and usage of small computer systems. Prerequisite: Successful admission into 1st year Computing Science Diploma
