Students examine the Canadian criminal justice system from a systems approach. Students follow criminal incidents through the system from detection and apprehension of the offender, to the end of any formal or informal disposition. Students explore the factors involved in the discretion, decisions, and practices of the entire system, analyze the functions and dysfunctions of the system, and review current issues and reform initiatives. Note: Students will only receive credit for one of CRIM 2520, CRIM 2521, SOCI 2521 and SOCI 2500.
