Institutional Learning Outcomes: Critical Thinking and Investigation Students examine the ways social scientists employ qualitative research to identify, document and critically analyse complex social phenomena and patterns and practices of interaction. The course is intended to provide an overview of particular techniques in research design, data collection, and data analysis most commonly associated with qualitative research. Students design, conduct preliminary research on, and execute a research project of their own, based on a topic of their choosing. Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for the course, but CRIM 1011, SOCI 1111, SOCI 1211 are recommended. Note: Students cannot receive credit for more than one of CRIM 3821 and SOCI 3821.
