This course acquaints students with the process of educational research and current issues. It introduces learners to the notion of communities of scholars, facilitates the development of a graduate culture, and builds community among graduate students, faculty members, and researchers. This course offers students the opportunity to participate in a research colloquium and to develop an appreciation and awareness of the objectives and mechanisms of events that support knowledge dissemination. Students become familiar with a wide variety of research methods which are relevant to educational issues. They gain exposure to a breadth of scientific literature to develop an ability to navigate a wide range of scholarship as informed and critical consumers of scientific literature. Students also develop insights into how current research in education informs and enriches pedagogical strategies and bridges the gap between theory and practice.
