Institutional Learning Outcomes: Knowledge Students examine, in chronological sequence, the growth of the novel in eighteenth-century England, by looking at the relationship (sometimes hostile, sometimes sympathetic) between the novel and the traditions of comedy, romance, and epic. Topics include an examination of the relationship between the novel and journalistic prose, autobiography, and biography. Prerequisite: Any two of: ENGL 1100 or ENGL 1110 or ENGL 1120 or ENGL 1140, ENGL 1210, completion of 45 credits, or permission of the instructor.
