This course provides an introduction to the fundamental properties of solids that govern the behavior of electronic and photonic devices. The mechanisms underpinning the electrical conductivity of conductors, semiconductors, and insulators, as well as their interactions with light are introduced and explained. Prerequisite: EPHY 1270 (min. grade D) or PHYS 1250 (min. grade D) and PHYS 2250 (may be taken concurrently) and MATH 2110 (may be taken concurrently)
