Developing a theoretical framework for practice, students are introduced to the philosophical values and theoretical understandings that provide a foundation for competent practice as a Health Care Assistant (HCA). This course focuses on concepts of caring and person-centred care, basic human needs and human development, and family, culture and diversity as they relate to health and healing. Students are also introduced to a problem-solving model that will be critical to their practice. Prerequisites: Admission to the Health Care Assistant Certificate program. HLTH 1001, HLTH 1051, HLTH 1101, HLTH 1153, HLTH 1201, HLTH 1351 Note: Students will only receive credit for one of HEAL 1010 and HEAL 1011.
