This course introduces the s tudent to the principles of microbiology. Topics include the history of microbiology, a survey of the different types of microorganisms, prokaryotic cell structure and function, microbial nutrition and growth, microbial metabolism and its applications, and bacterial genetics and gene expression. An introduction to bacterial gene expression will also be covered. The laboratory exercises complement the lectures and introduce the student to basic microbiological techniques and applications.Weekly
