The primary focus of this course is the interactions between mammalian-specific bacterial, fungal and protozoan pathogens and their hosts. The course will examine molecular mechanisms underlying pathogen-host recognition, pathogen invasion of host cells and hijacking of host cell signalling. The molecular basis of the host immune response to pathogens and how pathogens interact with, modify and/or evade the immune system will also be covered. The course will conclude with a review of appropriate versus inappropriate host immune responses to infectious and non-infectious agents and how these responses contribute to the outcomes of infectious diseases and several infection-related autoimmune.Weekly
