This course draws on an inter-sectional theoretical framework to examine the links between interpersonal, state and structural violence, and how these links are hidden. Students will examine the relationship between violence and colonial, racially-organized, socioeconomic, and gendered inequalities from national and global perspectives: how work, laws, prisons, policing, schools, and related forms of social control operate. Using an interdisciplinary approach, students will explore the impact of structural violence on various social groups, and individual, state and collective community-driven anti-violence strategies.Weekly
