This course addresses the inter section of Mad studies and poetry, and considers the ways that Mad writers found poetic form to express lived experience and social marginalization. The course considers how the flexible form of poetry provides a site for such expression, but also the ways that stereotypes of madness have served as a prevalent poetic trope in poetry. Students will learn poetic analysis, and will contextualize the interaction between literary objects and sociopolitical contexts.Weekly
