This upper level liberal studies course surveys the economies of East Asia (Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines). The emphasis is on their patterns of economic development and inter-relationships. Topics to be covered include growth and development, international trade and investment, financial and exchange rate systems, as well as public policies. Current economic issues will also be discussed, particularly those with relevance to Canada.Weekly
