This course examines the transformation of the retail economy in the context of globalization and technology changes: from the declining roles of department stores and shopping centers to the emergence of big-box stores and power centers; from simple and linear to multiple distribution channels including e-tailing. This course also addresses, from a political-economy perspective, the important roles of the regulatory state in the process of the retail transformation.
