This interdisc iplinary course will employ a trauma-informed approach to explore tensions between criminalization and harm reduction in relation to substance use, sex work, and incarceration. Current qualitative and quantitative research, including perspectives from community agencies and advocates, as well as film and video screenings and first-person accounts will be used to explore impacts on diverse and often marginalized populations. Topics will address historic and modern forms of criminalization, the politics of stigmatization, and policy implications.Weekly
