This course is intended to familiarize students with a range of professional working studio environments and the administrative activities attached to them. Exposure to historical and contemporary studios and their operations will examine how studios engage and function in the private and public sectors. Key topics covered include organizational business structures, project management, budgeting and financial administration, basic structure of proposals and contracts, intellectual property and copyright. Topics presented will always return to a review of how the artist's professional practice and research navigates these areas. Students in the course will gain practical and critical skills that overlap with larger cultural and creative sectors.
