This course provides an overview and understanding of Canadian theatre history, playwrights, companies, and productions. Students will encounter Indigenous as well as colonial/settler performance histories throughout Canada with special focus on geographical areas, specific communities, and performance styles/traditions as selected by the course director. Special attention will be placed on representations of diversity, equity, and inclusion--including the lack of these concepts--within Canadian theatre throughout the country.
