This advanced studio course supports exploration in social practice in art. Working in the public sphere on individual and collaborative projects, students consider the intent and impact of their work on current cultural, social, ecological, ethical, and political issues. Approaches in artmaking as varied as urban interventions, performance art, time-based and interactive media, will be examined through readings, visual presentations, field trips, discussions and hands-on production. Students will engage with diverse communities in order to stimulate critical dialogue and social transformation.
