The core readings in this course will consist of contemporary English translations of a substantial portion of the Greek and Latin epic corpus, including complete or partial works by Homer, Apollonius Rhodius, Vergil, Ovid, Lucan and Statius. The classical epics will be studied with reference to their place in literary and cultural history. Students may not hold credit for both CLAS 3682 and CLAS 3680 when titled "Greek and Roman Epic Poetry." [3 credits]
