This course provides an introduction to theory and practice related to intercultural communication. Students will investigate the ways in which language, culture, and nonverbal communication play out in cross cultural contact. Students will become attuned to the values, beliefs, and assumptions they hold generally and about communication specifically as they interact with people unlike themselves. The course combines theory and research as well as the application of concepts, both in class and out of class, by way of activities, simulations, and interactions with people of other cultures [3 credits]
