This course will explore ideas about gender differentiation in laws and legal and social systems and organizations. The course will start with an introduction to feminist and gender-based critiques of law and theories about sexual equality, anti-racist and anti-colonial approaches and intersectionality (i.e. the complex phenomena of overlapping forms of discrimination and inequality.) We will then focus on some specific issues related to gender-based violence, reproductive justice, and queer issues. Students will be introduced to complexities of gender regulation in Indigenous cultures and be introduced to the MMIWG Calls to Justice [3 credits]
