A general course in municipal law, including important aspects of land-use control and planning law. Although the course deals generally with the nature, structure, functions, and powers of the various units comprising the local level of government, the focus is primarily on municipal corporations. Topics covered include assessment and taxation, land-use planning and control (including consideration of Indigenous issues in planning), tort liability, judicial review of bylaws, qualification and accountability of councillors, and the law relating to expropriation, as well as some discussion of contemporary urban problems [3 credits]
