An introduction to Indigenous languages in the Canadian context, with a focus on languages spoken in Manitoba. The history, current status, and key linguistic properties of the languages are surveyed. The linguistic effects of colonization and assimilation are examined, along with suggested solutions to Indigenous language endangerment and the loss of linguistic diversity.
