A selective study of the vast and varied field of theoretical and critical approaches that have come to play a central role in the study of religion since World War II, this course focuses on one or more of the following, its context and precursors: African American theory and criticism, colonialism and post-colonialism, cultural studies, deconstruction, feminist criticisms, Frankfurt School, hermeneutics, semiotics, psychoanalytic theory and criticism, structuralism and post-structuralism [3 credits]
