An intensive overview of the history of the study of religion, with an emphasis on developments starting in the 18th and the 19th centuries. The contributions of numerous disciplines will be discussed in relation to the political and historical contexts that shape and give rise to the "world religions" paradigm. In any given year, emphasis may be given to developments in a particular field (e.g., Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, etc.) [3 credits]
