Arabic is the official language of 27 countries across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and the language of the Islamic religion. This course introduces Modern Standard Arabic at the elementary level. It is designed for students with no prior knowledge of Arabic. This course introduces students to the basic structures of Arabic and to use it for simple communication. Students will begin with learning the alphabet and spelling conventions of Arabic. After that, the class will focus on four communication skills: reading, speaking, listening and writing. Through various activities and using audiovisual materials students will gain exposure to the context of native-speaking environments and be familiarized with Arabic culture. Weekly hours: 3 Lecture hoursNote: Students who are fluent in Arabic may not take this course for credit.
