Microbial genetic systems will be highlighted as we collectively work through the topics of gene regulation, replication, mutagenesis, repair, recombination, transposition and horizontal gene transfer using a mix of lecture material and working collectively through research articles that highlight these topics. We will focus on understanding how hypotheses are tested and the evolving tools and technologies used and available in studying genetic systems. Weekly hours: 3 Lecture hoursPrerequisite(s): BMSC 320.3 Note: BIOL 226 is strongly recommended. Students with credit for MICR 386, MICR 387 or MCIM 387 may not take MCIM 487 for credit.
