This course introduces students to metabolism, which is the sum of chemical processes by which cells extract energy and reducing power from its environment (catabolism) and use these to make the building blocks of macromolecules and the macromolecules themselves (anabolism). The major metabolic pathways involved in the synthesis and breakdown of important biological molecules are explored, along with the mechanisms of regulating these pathways in the body.
