Building on CHEP 402, this course builds on practical applications of theoretical health equity and advocacy concepts in community contexts, focusing on the challenges faced in underserved and low-resourced contexts. Students will engage in active, participatory learning to understand the root causes of global health inequities, including colonialism, neoliberal globalization and epidemics and the politics of health. The course will explore global health systems and decolonizing health approaches, emphasizing the roles of governments, NGOs, and social movements in promoting health equity. Students will also examine health activism and the links between human and environmental health, with a focus on addressing systemic challenges to global and planetary health equity. Weekly hours: 1.5 Lecture hours and 1.5 Seminar/Discussion hoursRestriction(s): Intended for College of Medicine students in the Certificate in Global Health program; however, open to additional students with permission from the instructor/department.
