The objectives are to teach students the basic principles of administering local anesthetics safely and effectively. Topics to be discussed will include the indications and advantages of regional anesthesia, and the various techniques available to the dentist. Emphasis will be placed upon an understanding of the pharmacologic actions of local anesthetics and vasoconstrictors and their side effects and complications. Proper patient evaluation to identify high-risk patients will be stressed. Weekly hours: 1 Lecture hours
