This course examines the application of various aspects of law to the field of sports. The course will examine the role played by sports in our culture and our society. We will look at the application of contract law and collective bargaining in professional sports, including arbitration, and the role of anti-trust legislation to the sports industry, including comparative approaches to the regulation of sport. The course will also examine issues of the right to participate, ethics in sports, including drugs in amateur and professional sports and the role of sports agents in professional sport. The application of tort law and criminal law to violence in sports will also be examined. Weekly hours: 3 Seminar/Discussion hours
