This course will examine topics from sociolinguistics and linguistic anthropology. Possible topics include variationist sociolinguistics, language contact, language ideologies, ethnography of speaking, the conceptualization of space and time, metaphor, etc. Weekly hours: 3 Seminar/Discussion hours Restriction: Restricted to graduate students in the Department of Linguistics. Note: Students may take this course more than once for credit, provided the topic covered in each offering differs substantially. Students must consult the Department to ensure that the topics covered are different.
