The course examines the changing world of work through classical and contemporary sociological texts. Consideration will be given to the real-world application of core theoretical concepts and methodological approaches drawn from the texts. In this course we will explore topics such as work organization in the new ‘gig’ economy, robotics and other forms of technology in the workplace, emotional labour, and collective forms of workers’ resistance. Weekly hours: 3 Lecture hoursPrerequisite(s): 18 credit units SOC including SOC 216.3. Note: Students with credit for SOC 806.3 may not take this course for credit.
