Focusing on the development of specific Chinese cities, the course emphasizes understanding the socio-cultural production of space as well as analytical reading of landscape, urban imagery, and urban writings. Forms of popular culture studied include art, visual culture, consumer habits, foodways, advertising, music, and fashion.
