A broad survey of Indigenous arts in North America focusing on the south and the west, from Mesoamerican monuments, to Northwest Coast chiefly arts, to contemporary clay in the Southwest. Topics from resource extraction and water politics to ancestral arts and modern markets will emerge throughout, all departing from analysis of art objects in their cultural context. Assignments draw on the rich variety of Indigenous arts in local Toronto institutions and public spaces.
