Enthusiasm for transitional justice is understandable, and critical reflection on the politics of memory is imperative. In what ways has memory in Latin America been mobilized by various groups to confront serious violations of human rights? We will address the connections between memory, accountability and social reconstruction, and each student will be asked to write a research paper on a case study or topic of their choice.
