Yet Machiavelli himself is arguably the least Machiavellian of political figures of the Italian Renaissance. This course examines the writings of Niccolò Machiavelli, placing them in their historical context in order to understand this most controversial figure of the Renaissance, his influence and his lasting legacy. Mental health literacy refers to the knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions, including the ability to recognize symptoms, seek help and know how to support others. Students will investigate varied and global approaches towards achieving wellbeing and situate mental health within individual and social contexts with an emphasis on lived experience. Indigenous, Eastern and spiritual conceptions of wellbeing will be introduced. Mental health literacy in schools and other contexts of learning, will be discussed. The course will equip students with knowledge of how to support their own wellbeing, community wellbeing, and the wellbeing of those they serve now and will serve in the future.
